Hooray we won! Not one… but two awards!
On Friday the 20th November 2015 Joanne was honoured for her contribution the landscaping industry and received the ‘Celebrating Women in Landscaping’ award.
This is a new award that was only introduced this year to recognize and encourage women’s contribution to landscaping industry. Which continues to be a male dominated industry. As a team we couldn’t be more proud.
Joanne has been somewhat of a pioneer since the beginning; she was among the first group of girls to attend Hawkesbury Agriculture College. Studying a Diploma in Applied Science Agriculture, then later went on to a Diploma of Education from Sydney’s Teachers College.
After 2 years of teaching Joanne decided it was time to ‘give landscaping a go’. Because of her age, her lack of experience and to be honest, her sex, she had trouble finding someone who would take her on board. So in 1981, Joanne had no other option but to start her own business, thus Joanne Green Landscape Design Pty Ltd was born.
To say it was a male dominated industry, is putting it lightly. Joanne was one of the first females to make a name for herself in the landscaping business, and was the first female ever to be accepted as a member into the Landscape Association of NSW (now known as LNA). Due to her design finesse and natural business instincts Joanne Green Landscape Design was a raging success.
In another exciting win, we (Joanne Green Landscape & Interior) took out gold in one of the residential categories for our Bilgola Plateau project, and we couldn’t be happier. Our brief was to create a French provincial garden that would cater to the 3 generations living in the house. This was achieved by creating pockets of spaces that can be enjoyed by all; an open outdoor kitchen and dining area – a social space for all to enjoy, a beautiful new pool, an expansive lawn for the dogs & grandkids to play and a incredible productive herb & vegetable garden for the avid cook in the family.
The end result is a delightfully French space, catering for year round entertainment and beauty.
