As part of this complete home redecoration, we were asked to replace the tired and neglected garden with something stylish and sophisticated – yet completely unique.
Given the site’s steep location and poor access it was important that the new space was not only practical in terms of low maintenance, but exuded a lush appeal from within while being visually stunning and enticing from above.
Our project became a combination of design and construction. Before we could begin on building the garden, we needed to adjust the site grades and fences, upgrade the driveway surface to repair concrete cancer, improve access around the site with extensive walling, drainage and pathways and build a storage area under the deck.
Once these fundamentals were in place, we completely gutted the garden and designed a contemporary walk-through space predominantly of natives, with highlights of lush exotics, including Flannel Flowers, Snake Vine, Lady Palms, Mat Rush, Balled Japanese Box, Murraya, Dracaena, Grass Trees and Pincushion.
The garden was given a contemporary feel using sandstone walling and timber furnishings, with strategically placed pots and lighting used to build upon existing elements and sculpture and modern art surprises included to reward exploration.
The end result is a beautifully unique space that is as relaxing and enjoyable to walk through as it is visually stunning from above.
