Spring Garden Tips

With all this stunning weather we have predicted for this weekend, it’s the perfect opportunity to get down and dirty in the garden. Here is a few things you should be doing in your garden right now:

Fertilise:

Any winter blooms that have finished flowering eg daphne, azaleas and camellias should be fertilized using special fertilizers formulated for these acid loving plants. Make sure you water thoroughly before and after fertilizing to prevent root burn.Use a foliar fertilizer on spring flowering annuals and bulbs.Hydrangeas, Hibiscus, Abelia, Agapanthus and other summer flowering plants should be fed with a complete fertilizer and then watered in well.Citrus plants should be watered in and then fed with a complete citrus food.

Prune:

Hibiscus should be pruned now to promote new growth and a bushier plant.Any poinsettias that have finished flowering can be pruned backPrune your Camellias as soon as they have finished flowering.Tip-prune your Fuchsias and Geraniums to help promote new growth

Garden care:

Spring plants need a lot of water whilst in full bloom.Spray your lawns to get rid of any summer weeds that are starting to grow
